All things Unity Challenge 14- Be inspired

This week's Unity inspiration is the fun photo above. Now you make look at my card and start scratching your head but I will explain my creative thought process. First- I will admit the bright colours threw me- I am SO not a bright colour girl. Then I got hung up on what country did it represent? Finally I stopped analyzing and just let my eyes wander around the photo to see what inspired me. After I stopped stressing I kept coming to the flags and things that float in the breeze. Then it came to butterflies- they float in the breeze and I will always use any excuse to use a butterfly on my card. I did use the green in the photo but other than that I let the inspiration the flags gave me take over and let the card create itself.

Take a look at the photo again and see what inspires you? Instead of copying it which is what I normally do- just let an element of the picture carry you away. Your card may create itself like mine did :)

Do you have a particular style?

I have a hard time categorizing my style but I tend to lean more towards clean and simple (CAS), with a dash of Shabby chic and Vintage. Probably surprising to many of you who see many cards from me in the opposite style but I enjoy creating in different ways and pushing myself to think 'outside of the box'.

BUT....

My favourite card to make is one with a quote and kraft paper. I don't know why but it just makes me so happy. I also adore sewing on cards yet I don't do it often enough.

So..share with me what is your favourite style or type of card to make?

My card over at All Things Unity today

Does this sooo not make you want to cuppa tea? I do..but then I always do! I just wanted to post a quick note to share the card you can see at the ATU challenge blog today for the Friend's with Flair hoedown. I used Unity stamps, Graphic 45 paper, a brad and lace from SU, my flower dyenamic from MFT and a embosslit thingy from Spellbinders. I picked up most of my supplies from my drug *ahem* I mean craft dealer Sheila at SGD.

ATU Challenge- School Dayz!

This week for our All Things Unity challenge we are heading back to school! Make a card with a back to school theme to play along with us. I had this tag I made in CHA at the October Afternoon booth and I have been wondering how to use it as it was too pretty to just be put in a box to hoard- not that I EVER do that hee hee! I found some cool 'bubble test' paper in my scrap pile- I think it may even be from October Afternoon!?!. I sewed the tag onto the paper then attached it to a kraft card base. Which by the way I noticed all the ATU girls used a kraft base lol! I then stamped the schoolhouse directly onto the tag and chose a sweet sentiment that to me summed up what I hope all students and teachers aim to do- inspire. I stamped both in black versafine ink and voila!

Sharing my Unity card

Today I am hosting the All things Unity Friends with Flair post over at our challenge blog but I also wanted to share my card here with you. I used my new Unity stamps from my June KOTM and some prism paper I picked up from SGD. I kept the colour and the card simple and I have to admit I love how it turned out!

All things Unity challenge 9

This week's challenge to get your mojo hopping at All things Unity is to do a card inspired by this photo of beautiful soap. I chose to inspire my challenge by doing the white on white aspect of this card. Using white cardstock I used one of my embossing folders from SU to add the flower elements and added some white ribbon. This allowed me to add clean lines without adding colour to my layout. I then used one of my Unity quote stamps that came in one of my KOM to sum up the feeling of this card. This challenge was just that for me, a challenge, as I don't work well with white spaces and it's something I challenge myself to try once in awhile. All things Unity Inspiration 07

Sara has given us a cool photo to use as inspiration for our All Things Unity challenge. I used a quote from one of the previous kit of the month's paired up with the DeLovely line by Cosmo Cricket. Such fun bright colours to play with! I also used some of my treasured ribbon I got from SGD along with my paper. I used a Martha punch along the bottom, added some flat backed pearls and voila! Oh, and I TOTALLY borrowed the sketch from Papercrafts magazine's Sketch a day book. Pretty much exactly heh heh. I am soo layout challenged. I hope there are others out there like me!

ATU- It's a sketch challenge

It's been 2 weeks since our last challenge so it's time to get the ole mojo stirred up again. We have a fantastic sketch to work from this week and here is the card I came up with. I used a sand coloured ink and stamped it on my new Basic Grey paper- it's their newest line and the name is escaping me right now lol! I adore sketch's as layouts on cards and scrapbook pages are the area I am weakest in. I truly feel blown away when I see an incredible card or page and the person who made it 'just came up with it'. I try to sit next to them and casually rub my arm against them once in awhile to see if their talent will rub off on me a bit. Ha ha, don't worry- I don't rub arms with random strangers tee hee. Or people I know either. I might have less friends if I did that.

ATU- Up in the Sky challenge..

This time at All things Unity we are making cards with the inspiration of Up in the Sky. Right away I knew I wanted to use a rainbow as they have always been one of my fave things in life. No matter how many times I have seen one I am still enthralled and amazed each time. Last one I saw was so big and so close to the ground you truly thought you could find the end of the rainbow. And fyi- if there was going to be a pot of gold I was gonna get me some! I never fully give up on those beliefs in case by completely not believing it shuts the door to the magic happening =). Don't forget to drop by the challenge blog and the rest of the DT to see what this challenge meant to them. All Things Unity- Photo Inspiration

I am so in love with tea related items so it was no surprise that on this round at All Things Unity that my eye was drawn right to the tea on the serving tray in our inspiration photo. I actually own quite a few tea stamps from Unity- there must be a tea lover among the stamp designers at Unity! I hadn't used this cup of tea stamp yet and I dug up this sentiment from a recent Unity KOM and it went perfectly together. I pulled out the creamy colour and the teal. I wanted to give this card a weathered vintage look as I think the person I am sending this to loves vintage things just like me, in fact I am sure of it! It's time for another 'All things Unity" post and challenge

It's time for our second inspirational challenge at the 'All Things Unity' blog and we are going green! I have to say it was so much fun going to all the artist's cards who played along with us on our first challenge. I finally finished up seeing all of them and they were great!

To go green on this card I used a scrap card base I had kicking around and all kinds of American Crafts paper scraps I cut into thin strips and randomly glued along the front of the card. I played with this sweet Unity butterfly stamp and used Old Olive ink to match the paper and cardstock - well pretty darn close anyway lol! I usually colour when I stamp but sometimes it is so fun (and fast) to just ink- stamp- and go! when making a card. It's simple but nice and full of springiness I think...I also think I may  have just made up a new word. Pass it on.

New Challenge Blog- All Things Unity

So I have been sitting on a couple of secrets and now I can finally let another one out. Phew it's hard to keep happy secrets in lol! My friend Sara who shares my love of Unity stamps has started a new challenge blog called 'All Things Unity' where every 2 weeks we will post a new challenge where we hope to help inspire you with different ways to use your Unity stamps. For our first challenge Sara asked us to make something that made you think of sunshine. That's rainbows to me. I have a few rainbow stamps from Unity but this is one I hadn't used yet from a kit of the month a few back(Aug 09). It also came with this GREAT saying- happy day- from Unity so this card is perfect for so many card giving occasions. When I actually give one away that is ;). Also on the team are Ashley, Kyra and Ryann. So, I hope my card gave you sunshiney thoughts and grab a tea and hop on over to the ATU blog to get some more rays.
